What's the difference?

Custom Design

Goodhouse

Every Goodhouse is uniquely different and designed specifically for you and your site.

Others

Whilst others in this market may tolerate some amendments to their plans, generally the common option is choosing an existing design and trying to make it fit your brief and site.

Energy efficiency

Goodhouse

Goodhouse can deliver a product where energy efficiency measures are integrated into our system, meaning the home operates as passively as possible. Good houses (with modest PV system) also generate more energy than they use and energy data from completed projects show they are using less than 1/5 of the local area average energy consumption.

Others

Others may recognise various elements of energy efficiency and sustainability and offer these as ‘plug on’ options, however the majority of the products in this market heavily rely on active, high energy systems to maintain thermal comfort.

Quality

Goodhouse

Goodhouse is committed to offering a high quality product that will last, as the standard. In very basic terms, when confronted with a choice between quality that costs a bit more and a quick cheap fix, we’ll go quality every time. We will not compromise on the basics; structure, seal, insulation, windows and doors. All peripheral systems like wastewater, solar, A/C etc need to work as long as possible and have good warrantees. All fixtures, fittings and selections are chosen for their quality and longevity.

Others

Often the balance between quality and price is not explained in the general bulk build marketing, particularly in areas that are not visible. A quality fit out is usually available, but often not standard.

Budget certainty

Goodhouse

Goodhouse provides a preliminary cost estimation service at design phase. This provides you with the confidence to continue with the rest of the process knowing that there won’t be any nasty budget blow out surprises at the final pricing stage. As the documentation and construction process is so systemised, variations to contract price are rare, usually only due to client selection changes.

Others

The budget in most architectural processes is very difficult to manage with the ‘real’ cost of the project only coming at the end of the process. Build price can also unexpectedly increase through the process with necessary ‘upspeccing’ and variations.

Connection

Goodhouse

As each Goodhouse is designed specifically for you and your site, there is great consideration to the internal/external connection. Living zones are a clever combination of inside and outside spaces with only large windows and doors between. Flow is encouraged and living is not limited by the outside walls.

Others

Often the focus of the others is the just the house itself. Rarely is there much consideration to the outside spaces left over. Often outdoor spaces can end up with orientations that render them useless at certain times of the day/year.

Healthy

Goodhouse

The passive nature of how Goodhouses operate coupled with the site appropriate ‘connected’ designs, means that our homes are naturally healthy. They maintain thermal comfort without relying of air conditioning; they breathe; and they are naturally light and bright.

We also consider the internal fit out in terms of VOC levels and off gassing.

Others

Many other homes in this market do not consider these factors unless pushed. In terms of windows and doors, many bulk build homes do not consider position or types of openings meaning that natural daylighting, passive solar gain, shading and cross ventilation are either compromised or non-existent.

Us

Goodhouse

Another benefit of using Goodhouse is that you get to work with us! We assist you in the whole process from design to house hand over. We co-design with you and can assist or drive all aesthetic decisions. We work for you and so offer advocacy during all negotiations through the process.

Others

Often the experience of building can be quite disempowering. Many times the process can end up with you struggling to be heard and trying to negotiate in unfamiliar territory.
